Organizational Context

The Youth Employment Project (YEP) builds on the successful public-private partnership model demonstrated through its predecessor project called the Promoting Employment and Productivity in Garment Industry” (PEPGI. 2013-2014) and Gender Promotion through Skills Development in Garment Factories (2006-12). The project will employ three interconnected outputs to achieve its objective. These relate to skills training, capacity development of a local training provider and policy research/advocacy on issues related to growth of garment industry. The project in the first phase will target youth from the Korangi, Lyari and Sultanabad areas of Karachi.

Under the guidance of the Project Manager, the Training Associate will provide high quality professional financial expertise to manage project operations according to UNDP rules and procedures.

Functions / Key Results Expected

Under the supervision of Project Manager Training Associate will be required to perform the following duties:
• Facilitate project partner garment companies in the selection process of recruiting sewing operators, master trainers, mechanics, CAD/CAM operators, pattern makers/graders and other workforce based on selection criteria and test;
• Deliver garment manufacturing related trainings (theory and practical sessions) to target youth, industry workers, master trainers, productive executives, merchandisers, pattern makers/graders, CAD/CAM operators and machine mechanics at respective locations – institutes, garment companies, NGOs;
• Ensure good performance and progress of trainees- sewing operators, master trainers and others and ensure trainees maintain high productivity and quality levels;
• Maintain training progress and records of trainees;
• Assist Trainings Quality Assurance Officer in preparing training assessments and monitoring plan for the garment training program;
• Assist Trainings Quality Assurance (TQA) Officer in developing capacity development and monitoring plans for external (local) consultancy/training firm;
• Under the supervision of TQA Officer coordinate and follow-up with project partners- garment companies, garment training/TVET institutes and NGOs/CBOs in planning, implementing and monitoring training programs at respective locations;
• Provide technical assistance and facilitation to project partner garment companies in developing and up-grading systems, tools and processes related to sewing room production, industrial engineering, quality control and assurance, cutting and fabric room management, business process mapping etc.;
• Under the supervision of TQA Officer coordinate and follow-up with foreign or/and national apparel experts, consultants and trainers in training programs, systems development and up-gradation;
• Assist TQA Officer in preparing and disseminating training progress reports, delivering presentations and documenting best practices, lessons learned and success stories;
• Deliver lectures and presentations in seminars and training workshops in select technical areas for project stakeholders and beneficiaries; and
• Perform any other duties as required.
Impact of Results

The key results have an impact on the success of the crisis prevention and recovery component of the country programme. In particular, the key results have an impact on designing of key strategies for the engagement and training of youth to promote peace and social cohesion.

Recruitment Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirement : Bachelors (B.Sc.) degree in textile sciences/engineering or industrial engineering required.

D.A.E (garment technology) is desirable but not a requirement.

Experience:
At least 6 years of professional work experience in garment manufacturing units preferably in production management, training or/and quality assurance is desirable.

Language Requirements:
Fluency in English and Urdu.
